An electric oven with resistors consists of a cavity surrounded by materials suitable for high temperatures. Up to 3 resistors allow the oven to reach the desired temperature by transforming part of the electrical energy it receives into heat by the physical reaction called Joule's law.

There are 3 types of resistance:

  • The grill element also called upper element: this grill element is the heating element located at the top of the oven. It is used in particular in grill mode, to brown a dish for example.
  • The sole resistance is located on the lower part of the oven. It allows, for example, perfect cooking of tart bases.
  • Finally, the circular resistance: it is located at the bottom of the appliance enclosure. It only concerns the types of appliances equipped with the rotating heat function. This cooking mode allows you to cook several dishes at the same time.

When a resistor malfunctions, the heat produced inside the oven will no longer be sufficient. Similarly, the heat distribution will be less efficient. To find the defective part, it is time to test each resistor using a measuring device set to ohmmeter mode. Check one by one the resistors accessible from the back of your oven.

What signs indicate that a heating element in the oven needs to be replaced?

  • Your oven trips the electrical panel
  • The oven does not heat evenly and dishes are not cooked evenly
  • Your dishes take longer to cook,
  • it becomes impossible to brown a dish
  • Your oven behaves correctly on certain programs
